Great product. Easy to use and germinates in the time described.
We moved recently, and the house we moved into had a lawn that needed some work. A portion of the berm and the front yard was dirt, populated by crab grass and clover, and some spots I would mow over would produce big dust clouds. Not enough bald patches to justify getting sod (in my opinion), but too much where simply seeding would likely attract birds and/or create more work (putting down hay, netting, etc.). Like many of you, I work full time, have a family, and simply don't have the time to do all of that and, given weather patterns, can't rely on the weekend to take care of it. I have better things to do.Looking at the product description, it has a mix of Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, and rye, a great mix of both fast growing and hardy seeds perfect for Zone 6 regions, and also contains fertilizer and recycled mulch. I started filling in patchy spots in April (it is July as I write this), but rather than doing every spot that needed to be filled in, I decided to work in sections. Given how the temperatures have been fluctuating so much (NASA actually just reported that June 2023 was the hottest June on record) and I wasn't certain how much rain we would be getting, I didn't want to do a huge section and waste gallons of water on it to get it to germinate, only to have it expire from the heat (despite what the following may suggest, I almost never water the grass. I have no problem letting it go dormant in the summer heat. The key to it surviving/thriving is not to cut it too short. Do that and save yourself some money).Anyway, this is what I did:1. Beginning in the morning and using a hand cultivator, I loosened the soil where I wanted to plant, removing any weeds and crabgrass that might compete for the fertilizer and water, going about 1-2" deep.2. Using a trowel, I scooped the mix in every area I prepped.3. Using the hand cultivator turned upside down, I gently went over the top where I put the patch mix to encourage the seeds, mulch, and fertilizer to go into the soil and spread out.4. I gave it a heavy dose of water ("shower" setting on the nozzle) to completely soak the the area for about 15-30 seconds.5. I did this again in the early evening, watering twice a day for a week (unless we had rain).6. As advertised, the seeds germinated in a week, after which I watered once a day in the morning until the grass matured and could survive without it (about 2 weeks after germinating) and I could give it a haircut. On cooler days I would skip a day.Seeing the results, I'm certain I could have seeded every large area at once and been done by now (I'm still doing areas, I don't begin a new area until the other area I've done is mature enough to not need so much attention. I'm only doing about 1-2sqft at a time, but I'm not in a rush and would rather make sure everything is done right. The grasses I seeded in April look healthy, strong, and have been mowed/mulched several times, without any ill effects (I currently have the mower deck at 2-3/4"). The small patches in the grass itself that I've done are completely indistinguishable from the rest of the lawn. This is a great product and works exactly as advertised. At $20-$26/10lb. bag, it's a decent price and I would recommend it.

Worked Well — Just Be Patient and Keep It Watered
I used this to fill in some bare patches in both sunny and shady parts of my yard, and it worked really well. The key is keeping it consistently moist — I watered lightly a couple of times a day, especially in the first week. I started seeing growth in about 7–10 days, and by the third week, the spots were noticeably fuller. The mix is easy to spread and sticks well to the soil. It helped blend into the rest of my lawn better than I expected. Just don’t skip the watering — if you keep it damp, it does what it promises. I’d definitely use it again for patchy spots.

A little slow to start
We bought this to fill in a small area where our fireplace used to sit before we built it in. It was surprisingly a little slow to start (which was opposite of our previous results with the same product) but it filled in nicely after about 8 weeks. We live in Michigan....not sure what zone that is?

Don’t waste your money
No even worth 1 star! First of all, I prepared the soil area according to the directions and painstakingly followed all the instructions on how to treat the area considered. Needless to say after ten days I have yet to see any new activity, not even one blade!!! TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!

Not impressed
Boy I would have thought with the Scott’s name that the grass seed quality would be good and that most if not all of the seed would grow. Well seven days of watering and I still have bare grass areasI’m not impressed at all!

Very high germination rate! Works great!
I only needed a little grass seed to finish off this season and to spend enough money to get the free shipping, so I found this product from Scotts. The place I needed to seed also was likely suffering some soil depletion due to a lack of existing grass, clays/stones mixed in the soil, and pine trees in the vicinity, so I needed some fertilizer to give things a boost as well. And thus I purchased this. There were seven areas less than 2x2 in size that I needed to reseed/patch. I dug the top 1-2 inches of topsoil out and replaced it with soil that was less clay and stone-ridden. I then raked it level and applied this product liberally. I went 2-3 times thicker than recommended on the bag to be honest. I applied a thinner layer in another location without loosening the soil just to finish the bag up. I have watered liberally for 20-30 minutes a day, even on days it rained.I am pleased to report that after 5 days I am seeing abundant germination in ALL locations, even the thinner layer over unprepared soil. I'm quite pleased with the product and it's results. I'll have a few small areas that may need near-complete reseed come spring and one area of the lawn that just needs filled in to the edges. I'll purchase the larger bag next time around and use it. I will then use Scott's Thick'R Lawn seed/fertilizer/soil improver for general spreading over areas that need an overseed boost, as I've had success using that for general seeding applications in acidic or depleted soils.I highly recommend both products. I've learned that liberally watering is definitely key with Scotts products no matter how you spread it though. So water abundantly and keep the soil moist!

Great product!
This product is great! I recommend it to anyone looking to grow grass anywhere. It took about two weeks to notice a difference. The pictures are just one month apart. I watered everyday for about 3 weeks. It has made a huge difference

Stated Coverage is way off
There is NO WAY that the coverage is correct. I had about 200 sq ft and so I bought two bags which should have covered 290 sq. I was lucky if it covered have my bare spot. Not happy needed four bags - CRAZY
