The meter feels solid and well constructed. The plastic is thick and study (no creaking or flimsiness). The battery compartment has a proper O-ring and the rest of the unit looks to be sealed with glue/silicone. Nice Japanese OEM batteries are included so it's ready to go out of the box.It's a bit larger than other meters, but that makes it easier to handle. The lanyard very convenient when taking direct measurements inside larger reservoirs such as 50 gallon drums. Even if you do drop this meter into your reservoir it'll be fine because it's fully waterproof.This meter does not provide exact numeric measurements on a display like some others, but the LED indicators are easy to read and intuitive. If one indicator blinks, then your nutrient concentration is at that level. If two LEDs alternate blinking then the measurement is about halfway between those values. The precision should be enough for any hydroponics system.The meter turns on automatically when it detects water above the minimum PPM and turns off automatically after displaying the reading for a while. There are no controls on the meter. It doesn't turn on when immersed in common tap water, so accidental battery drain isn't a problem. The detector element itself is also very sturdy and easy to clean. I usually rinse it off every few measurements and store it in the protective case.Buy it!

The media could not be loaded. We use it for measuring EC in the hydroponic nutrient solution on our market farm where we grow lettuce. It has been the best meter I've purchased so far due to not needing calibration and working as advertised right out of the box. Would buy again.

This product is a joy to use! Upgrading from a cheap Chinese-made digital meter, the experience is night and day different. The readings are quick, CONSISTENT, and super easy to read. I love that this doubles as a nutrient stir stick, and the no button/no switch design makes it effortless to use.Here's the difference between this product (commercial) and the standard truncheon: the commercial has a wider measurement range, from 0.4 EC to 6.0 EC. That's it. The standard truncheon goes from 0.2 EC to 3.6 EC. The standard model is fine for any hobbyist, but you may want the commercial if you are going to mix up nutrient liquid concentrates, and then add them to your nutrient reservoir through an automated measuring and dosing system.I purchased the commercial model because it was on sale for the same price as the standard model, and I thought "commercial" must equal "better." I probably don't need the increased range, but I have no regrets: it works perfectly fine for my purposes, and I can upgrade later to an automated dosing system if I choose.Whichever model you get, the Truncheon is absolutely worth the price of entry. It's so easy and intuitive, and cleanup is just a spritz of tap water or a dab with a towel. Nutrient testing is now my favorite part of the routine.

They last a long time and they have grate customer services it you have a problem, you can all them and they will help you get your problem fixed. I bought this EC tool so that I could muser the amount of nutrient that I had in my nutrient tank to make sure that the levers are the right amount. I grow many different kind of vegetable and I use different kind and mik different types of NPK for all they different system that i have so I use this tool to make sure that each nutrient tank has the right amount of nutrient in it. I love this tool . It is worth paying for the real name brand tool !

Great product package was negligent but it's a robust product

This item stopped working after 2 years. Has a 5 year warranty and I've contacted the seller with no response. If you buy it don't do it through AmazonUpdate: Beware of sellers on Amazon , they won't support you or the product they are selling. I am giving Blue Lab all the credit here. Their representative contacted me , got the info needed and refunded this purchase of the new one.Thank you Blue lab and I look forward to buying mor of your products .

After buying and returning a cheaper item, I am back to an awesome brand and an item I had used for years and that I trust to help me keep my Hydroponic systems in the correct range. This truncheon is super easy to use, instantly readable, durable, and accurate. The cheap alternative was not waterproof, didn’t read consistently, and failed completely in less than a week. The last truncheon I owned lasted 3 years of daily commercial use monitoring 6 high volume flow systems. Trust BlueLab, worth the extra money.
