Are banana plus necessary? No, you can manage OK without them. Are they a good idea? Without a doubt, yes. Why?It is very unlikely that you will connect your speaker cables to your amp once only and at the other end to your speakers once only, and never touch them again.With banana plugs, once you have taken a small amount of trouble to connect them, you have a guaranteed secure connection time and time again. Doesn't matter how many times you disconnect from the speaker to move them, clean them, or even replace them. And the same at the amplifier end (for cleaning or disentangling or whatever else). The speaker cables do not get damaged, frayed, or messed up in any other way. So, once you have banana plugs fitted, your cables' ends are protected. It is also helpful to anyone like me with less than perfect eyesight, as you can connect the red plug to the + lead and the black plug to the - lead in the comfort of your chair or sitting at a table. Then when you're reaching behind the speaker or lying on the floor to get at the back of your AV amp, all you need to see is the difference between red and black and not which lead is which.Over many years, I have used many different banana plugs, of varying quality and ease of use. Some need small crosshead screwdrivers for the grub screws, some a small slot screwdriver. Some have two screws per cable, some have one. Some have a metal shroud, some a plastic one, some no shroud. My current systems use both metal shrouded and plastic shrouded plugs. My sons have a similar mixture.So, what about these Sewell gold plated ones. I bought these for a friend, but have tried them out for myself in my AV system. For a start, I like the idea that they are all metal, with no plastic parts to warp or crack, or get cross-threaded. They are without doubt the easiest to use that I have ever encountered. You can insert the cable through the end of the threaded nut and then tighten the nut into the body. You can insert the cable into the hole in the body and then tighten the threaded nut. You can easily fit two cables together (e.g. at the amp end for biwired speakers). Whichever way you do it, you get a solid electrical connection. And no tools needed to do them up! The plug itself grips securely and tightly into the receptor of amp or speaker. Perfect. You can easily pay £5 per pair (and much more), for something that is just as good but no better. If you are wanting banana plugs, you need have no hesitation about getting these.

A reasonable price for the quantity, they arrived within three days and came in a book-sized package, which fitted through the letterbox (so you don't have to wait in for them - great).Each individual plug is weighty metal, giving an air of quality. I purchased these over the two-screw version because of the promise of a female banana plug in the shaft, which I thought would be useful for using my existing cables for testing purposes and, although this requires the somewhat inelegant (yet suggested) method of feeding the wire through the side hole, the rear shaft is indeed a nice and firm fit for male plugs.The plugs themselves screw together in three parts; let's call them the banana, the wire clamp and the central shaft. A slightly more elegant way of connecting the wires is by feeding them through the back of the wire clamp to be splayed between the clamp and the central shaft in order to gain purchase. Whilst the wire clamp and the banana do indeed appear to be gold plated, the central shaft is some kind of chrome plated metal and contact is made because the entire plug is 'live' so to speak. Herein lies the only slightly technical issue that perhaps some folk may have with them using this method. When fully screwed in, the banana does not protrude sufficiently into the central shaft and, when the wire clamp is completely screwed in, there remains maybe 3mm of gap between the clamp and the banana. So, whilst the copper wire will be connected to the gold of the wire clamp, unless your wire is suitably thick or long, there is no guarantee that the copper is making contact with the gold of the banana. What might have been better is for the entire plug to be gold plated or for the screw of the banana to protrude further into the central shaft so that it was more likely that the copper wire is splayed/clamped between it and the wire clamp.Also, If you have a habit of slightly wiggling/turning, rather than pushing/pulling the plugs in or out of their sockets to ensure fresh contact, the banana may begin to loosen slightly if you turn it the wrong way (anticlockwise), if you have only finger-tightened it. Other than this, the plugs work fine, but I can only rate a 4*.

Well ordered this product after a friends recommendation for my new home surround.Ordered on Saturday and arrived on Tuesday morning.Item was well packed by amazon as they do.Well the quality of item is superb. It's easy to connect the wire too.I have weak hands and was worried about screwing it on tightly as I did not want to use a pair of pliers to damage the ends, but I had no problems at all it screwed down nice and tight, easier than I thought it would have been.The top unscrews and so does the bottom. (Even if i did use a pliers it would not have damaged it)The only down side to this item is that if you don't strip the wire to the correct length it will come out to other side - Like threading a needle.So what I did was pass it down the middle as it is hollow and bent the wire a bit so it would hold tight by the screw instead.Next time I do buy a set of banana plug I would probably look at one that is fully insulated for piece of mind, but as it was my first experience with them they are excellent value for money though and no doubt other people are selling these for much more.

Very robust and substantial but did not fit the wire I was using very well as it was too fine for these. Bought Sewell silverback bannana plugs instead which are much better design and fits any gauge of wire very well

They do the job well. Nice knurling on the screw posts on the back make it easy to screw/un-screw. The holes on the side are far bigger than they need to be in my opinion: Its unlikely that I'll ever try to put 4 Gauge wire in these, and the 16ga that I have in there look a little lost.The back of these accept another banana plug if you ever want to serial-connect them.Be aware that the tips may be loose and need to be tightened as well.There are better quality banana plugs out there but not at this price.

Ich habe damit aufgehört, die Lautsprecherkabel zu klemmen, am Verstärker und an den Boxen selber. Reinstecken und zudrehen, ist für mich nur eine halbe Sache. Werde jetzt alles pickfein mit diesen Steckern versehen, dann einfach reinstecken und fertig ist der hervorragende, wunderbare Klang meiner Musik. Ich empfehle allen solche Stecker zu verwenden, die sehr hochwertige Boxen, und eine sehr hochwertige Stereoanlage besitzen. Hervorragende Topqualität. Beste Verarbeitung! Sehr, sehr hochwertig und schwer. Sehr niedriger Preis. Bei uns würde dieser Satz Bananenstecker bis zu 70 Euro kosten, und vielleicht sogar darüber. These banana plugs took my 12 gauge stranded wires and made a solid connection. I purchased them through Amazon, and the shipment from SewellDirect.com was prompt. I am pleased with the purchase and have recommended them to friends. The gold parts appear to be solid brass, and the barrel is probably plated steel. These are a great value when purchased as a 24 pack from Sewell. Some vendors are selling them below cost and scamming with ridiculous shipping charges. Those low price scammers had me needlessly concerned about quality.The banana plug male tip has 6 flexible (compressible) splines to fill the female amplifier connector jack and get good contact. I remember a review I read about ONKYO receivers and I will concur. My old ONKYO TX906 (about 1991 vintage) has female banana jacks that are so small that these Sewell plugs cannot be inserted. However, the Sewell banana plugs work fine on my ONKYO TX8555 that was purchased in about 2008. They also work great in my DENON AVR-2801 from about 2001.The forward gold plug tip (call it part A) screws into the silver barrel (call it part B). The aft gold knurled end (call it part C) screws into the other end of the silver barrel and secures the colored ring (red or black). That part C knurled end piece is nearly 3/4" long, and is drilled through. The part C, aft end wire entry has a chamfer, a short cylindrical section, and a small shoulder that takes up the first 3/16". My 12 gauge wire could be pushed into the smallest diameter through hole, and is nicely secure. If you had heavier wire or extra thick insulation, you could still get a nice looking assembly by bottoming the insulation out on the shoulder.I used the rear/aft wire insertion method rather than through 1 side hole and out the other. I divided my copper in 2, pulled it through the barrel side holes, and screwed rear part C down to pinch the wire strands between its forward end and the "anvil" threaded end of part A. Parts A and C almost meet in a shallow "well" just below the forward edge of the part B barrel's side entry holes (the well is on the tip side of the banana plug). The entire assembly is tight enough that there is good electrical conductivity between all of the parts. Fill the "well" with wire stands, and you will have a good connection.An observation is that the threaded "anvil" end of the tip is scant 1/16" smaller diameter than the part C through hole. I am not sure what gauge of wire the part was designed for, but I could probably have splayed short ends of the 12 gage wire and had a good connection. If you have thin wires (I had some 22 gauge "speaker wire" to a small center speaker), you just need to strip a longer length of the wire end (maybe 4 inches). Then triple or quadruple it up and fold it over the edge of part C's forward end. That provides enough compression to get good contact and it works fine. 16 gauge wire would be easier to work with than that tiny 22 gauge stuff.Sorry if my terminology is not AV standard...I am a mechanical engine guy that couldn't tell from some of the whining in reviews if these were good. They are!
