Buffalo's East Side Industry (Images of America)

Actually, the entire book could have been larger, including the print and the photos. Let's face it, most of the people who buy this book will be older folks who grew up on the East Side of Buffalo, worked there themselves, or who knew some of these businesses personally. I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 80-something parents who grew up in Buffalo. But the photos were poor quality, the print was on the light side and rather small, and the entire book really could have been larger. It's a shame the historians, the writers and the publisher didn't think things through. My parents found the book interesting but had a hard time reading it. I could tell they were disappointed, which made me sad.

I'm from Buffalo and I knew it was one of the greatest manufacturing cities in the US at one time. The photos in this book prove it. Very interesting!

I learned a lot about the East Side. I grew up in Buffalo and visit often but don’t remember seeing many of these buildings. I hope I get the opportunity in the future for those that remain. The Captions added a lot to the photos in explaining and seeing Buffalo history.

Really nice overview. Together with Google Maps, helps me get a sense of what was on the East Side.

We need more books like this one to document the rich manufacturing history of Western New York (WNY). Every firm listed in this book deserves its own well-researched book, instead of only a few pages in a compilation. But until the day comes when all those books are published, this book will do yeoman's work to help tell the story. Just buy it already!Some of the firms in this book played a significant role in helping the USA win World War II (e.g., Irving). Many Western NY-ers found gainful employment in the firms documented in this book. Those hard-working folks deserve to have the work they performed somehow recognized and documented.There are many history books about WNY, but few are as interesting as this one. Not many people can buy every book published about WNY, but this book should be near the top of your "Buy It List." Like I said, buy it already!Thank you for reading my review.
