The problem of buying a monitor online is that if it is your only monitor you do not know if it is accurate. The answer to that is to take it along to your GP surgery and calibrate it against the one which the surgery should make freely available to their patients. Leave 10 minutes between readings and try to do both readings in the same chair. Any issues refer to reception staff who may be able to get a nurse to help.I have done this already with one of my monitors so I am confident I know what my pre-breakfast reading should be. Before breakfast each day is a good time to test. Expect some variation from day to day and from one monitor to another, typically plus or minus 10%. My readings today on my present monitors were 113/67 pulse 45, 114/64 45, 123/72 46. The new one was 125/64 49 so passes the calibration test.Furthermore I am under the supervision of the cardiologist at my local hospital. At present no treatment needed but being monitored annually so I like to know if my heartbeat has any irregularity. One of my existing monitors has this facility and gave a positive today for only the second time in a month. Impressively the new monitor also gave a positive today so it passes on all fronts.I knock off one star as it is a bit fiddly to set up. You just have to be patient and follow the setup instructions carefully.There is one plus point I should mention. The degree of squeeze to your upper arm is quite gentle during inflation. Also the voiced readings would be great for someone with poor vision. However I followed the clear instructions as to how to turn them off.I got mine from Amazon 'open box' for less than £6 so I am really pleased! To judge by the readings from the person who returned it and which Amazon failed to delete he or she needs urgent medical attention.

Please don't waste your money, I was stupid to buy the cheapest I could find. I could go into detail, but it just does not work and you are better spending a little more. Reading is inaccurate and item became faulty and not functional almost immediately.

Looks and feels very cheap and plasticky and has an irritating digital voice which announces your results really loudly! Apparently this CAN be turned off but goodness knows how because the instruction manual is very poorly written/translated. Tried entering the date and time etc several times, but it wouldn't save them for some reason so I gave up. Cuff inflated and gave a reading okay but whether it was accurate or not is hard to say. I took two measurements a couple of hours apart with wildly differing results which makes me suspect it's probably not up to much.

Great
