the instructions are really bad. But i soon figured it out
Ok sure, the instructions are really bad. But i soon figured it out, and it DOES WORK GREAT. Allow me to share some tips for anyone getting nowhere fast:MY INTENDED USE: Extend home wi-fi outside, through a thick walled, stone cottage. For use in an outside office (+/-15m away) and into a forest area beyond (+70m away).STEPS TO SUCCESS:- Don't plug the device directly into your PC/Laptop using a LAN cable to access the login page, as you'd usually do with a wireless router, it doesn't work like that!- The PoE unit has two outputs: LAN port (send this to a free LAN port on your ROUTER) & PoE port (send this to the device; it also powers the device).- Now you can access the 192.168.16.1 simply through your existing wi-fi signal. It's as simple as that!- Assign a static IP address IF necessary so it's within the router's range: e.g. 192.168.xx.yy, where xx is the same as your router, and yy can be anything for 0-255. Note: You MIGHT need to reboot things to affect changes after that.- Windows 8 IS TOTALLY supported. ;-)WHERE I WENT WRONG (with hindsight):I figured, badly, if I could set the device up to access the router like a wi-fi extender (i.e. CPE mode) then I would save myself lots of trouble running cable from the router to the outside wall. So I tried to do this and sort of got it working, but I lost half the signal strength straight away from the stone walls. By the time the signal reached the office (not far away) the signal was useless. Conclusion: For my needs, using the default AP mode with a lengthy LAN cable to the outside wall, I got a healthy, full strength signal from the outset. THAT made all the difference for me, as it easily penetrates a wooden shed/office (100% strength), and extends a good 50m-60m into the wooded area beyond without losing bandwidth (even with a few small trees blocking the line of sight). Trying to use it as a wi-fi extender in CPE mode proved to be a complete waste of time.

Appalling instructions, couldnt get into various Mode Options
Product good value but could never get into its Operation Mode. If you are not a techy geek this is very complicated. Thanks to others who had posted how to set it up still didnt work for me. Ive set up a few routers but this was ridiculous .Instructions Were in Chinese/English and mostly wrong with poor descriptions. I contacted seller three times sadly no response as was hoping to get this working as a bridge on the farm.Would liked to have tried Client and AP mode but again terrible instructions.

Good, but don't expect to get what the main pic looks like.
First of all the product delivered looks nothing like the one in the main picture (which is what I expected to receive), nor does it look like the other unit that's in the photos although it has more resemblance to this (for what it really looks like see photos I've attached ..... but I apologise for the temporary mounting using sellotape whilst I was testing the unit).Second .... Ignore any instructions in the box, they'll just confuse the hell out of you. There's a link to a PDF document on the side of the box that is of better help although still not perfect. Instructions should be included for Windows 10 these days but they're not)<<EDIT>> ….. I have written some Windows 10 instructions but I can't attach the document so have made a picture of each page. There's 12 pages but it's not daunting, it's just because I've gone through every last step you need to do and included screenshots so it's easier for less techie people to follow.Ignoring the fact it doesn't look like the unit I thought I was buying, and the fact the instructions aren't brilliant, the unit does seem to be performing as it should so far; the range is good and it hasn't suffered and drop outs.

Very Good !
Device is shipped in 'bridge mode' i.e. expecting another unit at the far end This seems a little silly as they are shipped individually.Setup was not particularly arduous: power the device up using the POE injector, do not connect the LAN side of the adaptor. From a wireless enabled laptop check that the device is visible on WiFi.Change IP settings on laptop wifi adapter to use an IP address within the same subnet as the device's default management address, 192.168.188.1 mask 255.255.255.0 DSG 192.168.188.253 (in my case). (start, settings, control panel, adapter settings, IPV4 properties, then make changes).Once the laptop has its new address, ping the device 192.168.188.253 just to check connectivity. If ping is successful then open a browser and browse to that address (.253).There's a very decent management GUI, and a wizard to set the device into AP mode. Once this is done the device will reload an come up in AP mode.I needed WiFi in my workshop, about 20m from the house. Tried powerline adaptors with no luck. Mobile 4g was giving me <1mb. This unit has done the trick perfectly, well happy !At 35m from the device (end of my garden) the received signal strength is -45 to -50db, which is a really good wifi signal.I changed some of the defaults on the device to use European WiFi standards and also turned the signal strength down from Max to Standard, Max is perhaps it bit too powerful. All in all for £33, its a steal !
