The Women of Rothschild: The Untold Story of the World's Most Famous Dynasty

A fascinating glimpse into a famous family
I found it extremely interesting although I sometimes got a bit confused who was who as the same names were used in every generation. Suddenly writers have discovered that women played as important a part in history as men did, except it was rarely acknowledged. In my lifetime (I am 93) there has been a sea change but there are still areas where much is needed to be done.(I was once asked to do some research and told to put my husband"s name on it. We both refused categorically!)

How strong women can make a family and hold it together
Would the Rothschilds have been the empire they were if it wasn't for the women?Read the book and find out.

Fantastic read!
A beautifully written and accessible history of the Rothschilds, told from the point of view of the women in the family. Natalies writing Style keeps this entertaining and kept me reaching for one more chapter. Highly recommended for anybody interested in history, the Rothschild family or looking for a great Christmas stocking filler. A+

Good.. But
It was a bit dry .. maybe a family tree to assist in all the names

Very interesting
It was an extremely interesting read but it would benefit from a family tree! The intermarriage combined with the many similar names [multiple Hannahs for example) it can get confusing with the best will in the world. Really unusual and a total punt when I bought it but glad I did!

A most interesting book
So glad I read this book. Such an interesting story of a remarkable family. The pace of moving through the generations was perfect. A correct amount of information, didn’t feel overburdened by too many words.

Extremely interesting read
It is a complex and very informative description of the Rothschild women, particularly those woh lived in the UK.I would have liked to know what happened to those who lived in Frankfurt, Vienna, Naples in the 20th century.Did they suffer the consequences of nazism ans fascism. Where there any of them sent to concentration camps or all escaped abroad somewhere from the Holocaust.

Women behind the Rothschild dynasty
I began reading this on my kindle, but soon realized I had to have a physical copy of the book. There is a detailed family tree inside, as well as photographs, and I referred to each of these many times. This is not a quick read. There are many names and historical events among the pages and I decided to take my time with this one. It was very well researched, but women’s roles in the past often leaves little for historians to find. Each of the women featured were well-educated and capable in their own right. Many were multi-lingual and capable of handling the banking, often helping their husbands and/or sons with the business. They were involved in numerous charity and political causes. The only women I had heard of prior to this book were Gutle and Miriam. Miriam was one of the most recent Rothschilds and she led such a productive life, she could have a book of her own.Through the years, the family became more mainstream and many today are not as devout in their Jewish faith as their ancestors before them. They also became more relaxed in regard to marriages and marrying outside the family and faith.I enjoyed reading about these women of the past and recommend this to other readers who enjoy history. Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read an advance copy. I am happy to recommend this book and give my honest review.

Good but…
I was hoping it would be a bit different. However, it was exactly as it claimed to be. The stories of the Women of Rothschild, not any getting to really hear their voices, etc. I love history but, sometimes I think I love more historical fiction. That’s nothing to be proud to admit, of course 🤷🏼♀️
