Per Cheapaudioman's review, I picked this up with a Geshelli J2 DAC. I am running optical/spdif to the J2 and the sound is simply incredible. The app is pretty dang good too. I've used DTS Play-Fi before, and this is way more easy to use, it's snappy and hardly has any lag. Honestly, the only thing you get with a Bluesound Node over this is a few different connection options that this does not have as well as maybe a better onboard DAC. For anyone that already plans on using their own DAC, this is definitely the much smarter buy.

Wiim Mini is an excellent little streaming device and is easily the best value streamer on the market! My one suggestion for users is to use specifically the optical out and send that to your DAC in order to ensure bit perfect audio and also measurably the best SNR of any possible output on the device. The Wiim Mini is a great device and really gives a wonderful entry point into the world of streaming audio to your speakers.

I love this device. Within an hour of opening the box I ordered another.Unboxing: Apple-like packaging. Over-packaged, but that's what consumers want. Very nice though. The device, USB power supply and cable, optical cable, mini plug to RCA adapter, and mini-to-mini (aux) cables included. Everything is there. The device itself has a 2.5+ diameter (see comparison to Echo Dot Gen 2) with play/pause and +/- volume controls on top. There are aux in/out and optical out ports. The small puck is very light, but has a rubberized non-slip bottom.Setup: A breeze. The Wiim app does the trick. (I used an iPhone).The app: Surprisingly intuitive, complete, and elegant. I haven't begun to try all the features but everything I've tried works. Like the Sonos app, you can directly control third party music service and tracks stored on your iPhone. The pre-set equalizer settings are very good and don't introduce noticeable unwanted distortion. Among other things the app allows the user to specify the output port (Aux or optical SPDIF), set output level for the Aux port, and I was able to test the capability of my old receiver to pass different bit depths and sample rates (see screen capture). The app also supports auto and manual synching with nearby Airplay devices for consistent latency. Mine was well-synched with a pair of Sonos Ones in the adjacent room so I didn't immediately need this feature.Sound quality and operation: Sound with the optical connection is very good - I would say that the weak link is my mid-grade Denon AV receiver, not the Wiim device. I haven't connected it to any of my audiophile gear yet, but I'd say the sound is comparable to my old Apple Airport Express units. It uses a very good, but not audiophile level DAC, but you wouldn't expect an audiophile DAC at this price point. But using the optical port I assume the Wiim DAC is bypassed anyway. I haven't had any drop outs but the device is adjacent to my access point so I wouldn't expect any. The volume and play/pause control on the top of the unit work very well and surprisingly to me, controlled the volume via SPDIF/optical to the connected receiver and also to the Sonos Ones that in the adjacent room.Re sound quality: Airplay 2 itself is a weak link. I've read conflicting info, but Airplay 2 seems to pass CD quality at best. So the higher sample rates and bit depth supported by the Wiim and available from the high resolution streaming services may be hard to realize unless you set up an elaborate wired connection. If I'm wrong about this - please let me know.I haven't tried Bluetooth, Alexa/Siri integration, or some of the other features. But even if they don't work at all, I'm still happy.Bottom line: I'm a big fan. I've already ordered another, and I expect to add them slowly to my other legacy gear. I'm so impressed this is probably the most detailed product review I've written. This is an excellent and much-needed product.

I did not expect it to sound this good. Other reviews say the built in DAC is ok for background listening, and I don’t plan on ever using it. If your hifi system is highly resolving and is set up fairly well in the room, and if you are currently streaming from a computer to your hifi system, you should hear a very noticeable improvement. I was streaming from a Windows 10 PC an $80 USB cable into a Schiit Bifrost DAC, connected to MiniDSP with Musical Paradise Tube amp for GR Reasearch Encore XLS, and Crown XLS 1502 driving 2 18” H Frame subs. For $100, the WIIM mini may be the biggest bang for the buck I’ve heard.

I like something that works at this price. There a lot of streamer at much high price and this may not be the streamer I will buy, this will definitely is my first.

I bought two of these a few months ago, as I'm gradually putting together a multi-room system with Tidal Connect. USB and coax outputs seemed to work well for a little while. Tidal Connect stopped working a while back; I contacted Wiim customer service, and they told me there's a software glitch with Android devices that Tidal is scheduled to fix sometime this fall. I happened to switch to an iPhone at the same time, so I tried setting them up again, this time with a new DAC. The included optical cable doesn't seem to fit and destroyed the ports on both devices. I contacted customer service about repairing them, and they've been non-responsive. These seemed great, but they're cheap for a reason.

I like this product a lot. Great connections, the app is excellent. Built in DAC is okay but better than the internal ones. Love that it has airplay 2 and Bluetooth as options. Only a couple small quirks. 1. I wish this unit was just a bit heavier or the base had better grip, when everything is connected it tends to move around easily. 2. I wish the connections on the back were parallel to one another, each cable radiates out from the device and makes it hard to keep the cables tidy. Just knit-picking.All said this is a great value.
