Awesome touchscreen smart lock for basic needs
I just bought this lock and installed it on the door between my garage and house. I was looking at more expensive locks, but this has all the sectional features in an attractive design and at an affordable price. I installed this on an old door in my 1930's house that didn't have an existing deadbolt so it took some extra time to drill the holes and chisel out the strike plate, but that would be the case for any new deadbolt I installed here. After that was done, the actual lock installation went quickly. I have to admit the door I installed it on is very ugly, as seen in the photos, but the lock is performing well. I'll list my pros and cons below:Pros:- High-quality materials and good construction. Doesn't feel cheap or weak.- Installation is easy and straightforward.- Autolock feature is great and the time is customizable- Allows for 50+ unique door codes- Can still be opened with the key if the batteries dieCons:- You have to wake up the touch screen with a tap before entering your code- I wish Amcrest linked to quick how-to videos that demonstrated how to program the lock.- Programming isn't as intuitive as other locks that connect to an app. You have to enter a sequence of codes to change functions. (However, you could argue that the lock is more secure because it's not wireless.)

Great lock. Could use Bluetooth or WiFi
Has been a little more than two months since I received my sample product but here is my review so far:Unboxing: product looks great. It's sleek and modern. One suggestion here is to have each of the parts in separate small boxes with numbers on them. You'd be surprised how much easier it makes it for a user when they can identify which screw or bolt goes with each step!First take: Quality: looks amazing. No flaws and excellent idea adding a protective cover over the keypad for shipping!Weight is about normal for a automated lock. I'd say it's a bit lighter than my Eufy lock in the garage but also not WiFi or bluetooth enabled so it's expected to be lighter.Installation:Used a phillips head screw driver for the entire installation. Super easy to install and get connected. The wire was a bit hard to get correctly inserted into the motherboard as the angle is a bit odd. It might be better to have a vertical plug as it would be easier than trying to maneuver the plug horizontally.Features: batteries went in and the coding programing was a bit tedious. If you mess up the programming it locks out. Initially this is sort of a pain. I eventually got it figured out by following the directions exactly. I may have gone over them too quickly the first round. The light up keypad is excellent for the dark and the green light and red light is also an excellent feature.Price: comparison to other products with similar features: looking at keypad locks it's about twice the price but when you add in the IP54 ratings it's on par with most locks.Overall take aways:I really like the product. It's not quite as heavy duty as my Eufy Smart lock with WiFi in my garage but it's close. To call the lock a smart lock is a bit deceiving. It does not have Bluetooth or app capabilities. With that being said I'd like to see a product like that from you in the future as the market is moving that way quickly.Craftsmanship and quality are outstanding. I really enjoy the look on the front door and enjoy the easy of use. I have not tested the IP54 but will report back if any issues occur next winter. It's in a heavily covered area so I'm not sure it would get wet anyways. One major installation addition I would make is numbering the boxes and cutting back on plastic use as many consumers are concerned about the problems plastics are causing on our planet. A small cardboard box for each step with screws/bolts with numbers greatly alleviates any confusion consumers have with installation.

Easy to Install, Sleek Door Lock
Over the past 10 months or so I have been using the Amcrest smart lock, which replaced a deadbolt lock that I wanted to have replaced since we first purchased our home. After my experience with is, I have to say that I'm really satisfied with it.INSTALLATION PROCESS:First of all, the installation process was very easy. While it may be necessary for others to enlarge the hole where the previous lock was installed, I was happy to see that, in my case, that was not necessary. I didn't have to modify that opening at all, even though the previous lock seemed to be much smaller. The nice thing about this smart lock is that the actual mechanism fits in spaces that standard locks would require, while the actual touchpad fits nicely on the treated surface of the door. Following the instructions was easy, and the installation process was mostly a breeze. I did encounter a minor issue at one point due to a mistake I made (I couldn't tell the difference between two pieces by looking at the image on the instructions), but after figuring that out, everything worked as expected. It took me not more than 20 minutes from start to finish.USING THE LOCK:After installing it and placing the batteries in the rear compartment, it worked very well. The first time you input the pin you have to follow specific instructions that would make it impossible for it to be changed by someone standing outside the door, but the process is not difficult at all, making it very secure yet not complicated (which is exactly what I was looking for). The touchpad is very responsive and looks very sleek, and it lights up once you touch any key. In addition to the touchpad, the lock can be bypassed by using a key that's included in the package. The only downside is that you can't lock and unlock it remotely as it's not Bluetooth-enabled, but I was aware of that before buying the product, so that's definitely not an issue (especially since I was uncertain whether having that option would make it easier for thieves to hack it). It's definitely a great, quality product. I haven’t even changed the batteries yet even though I installed it almost a year ago.

Not so smart Smart Lock!
I had been loosely looking for a smart lock for a while, but there are a couple reasons I had not made the leap yet.Two primary factors being: • Deadbolt alignment and fluid function of the deadbolt as the latch is turned • Platform integration (I wanted something that fit with an ecosystem I already had)The first thing you should know is that its essential that you have fluid movement of your existing deadbolt when the door is shut. This is a requirement for any option you are looking at. This Amcrest or any other motorized lock option is not going to work well for you if you must force your deadbolt to latch.Installation was simple. It took me more time to research how to get my old deadbolt out than it took me to install this new one. The Amcrest deadbolt intuitively went right into place once the old deadbolt was out. The parts are marked, and the instructions were clear if you weren’t sure where something went. Make sure you have a small level to ensure proper position on the door. It would have been nice to have a small cheap level (see photo) included in the box. This lock does not have any Bluetooth or Wi-Fi smartphone integration. If you have other Amcrest devices and use their Smarthome App, this device does not connect or integrate with that. It’s because of this I call this lock “not smart”. This lock is a stand-alone electronic or digital deadbolt. Make sure to align your expectations around this when you decide to buy this lock.I did take some time to adjust the plate on the door frame to ensure fluid movement of the latch. I made these adjustments before putting in the batteries. You can turn the latch on the inside freely as needed to work through the adjustment and alignment process. I did take a small file (see photo) to the catch plate on the door frame side to make sure the mechanism moves freely. I also put some silicone grease (see photo) on the deadbolt to help it slide better if the two pieces of metal contacted each other.Once everything was adjusted, I put the batteries in, and the device came to life. The easiest function of this device is to press the “lock” icon and the deadbolt moved to the secure position. The “unlock” process and the programming of it is a bit of a learning curve. All the programming needs to be done using the lock keypad. You need to carefully read the steps of the programming to ensure you successfully make the changes. You must first change the admin code, then you can program the users. There is a default user setup initially. For security reasons you want to make sure both are changed. The only obstacle to changing both the admin and the user passcodes is the finicky keypad. When in the dormant position, you are supposed to touch to wake it up, then proceed with entering your commands. I have noticed that simply touching the screen also presses buttons at the same time. This makes it difficult to ground yourself in where you are at in the programming steps. It took several tries, but I was able to get the admin and user codes set. You can set up to 51 users. Some advice I would suggest is to have a piece of paper to write down the user numbers and the codes you set up for people. There is no way through a device you can get a log of this. You need to keep track of them separately.OverallPro: • Sturdy design and made from very nice materials • Overall easy to install if you already have an existing deadbolt • Simple and easy to use functionality once programmed • No longer need to have or use a key (still keep it handy)Con: • No real smart device integration – no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi • Keypad is finicky to use (I am concerned about its continued functionality now that its exposed to the elements) • Programming can be a little frustrating due to the finicky keypad • Keeping track of users and codes on a separate sheet of paper seems counter intuitive to security • Depending on the style of the old lock, you may need to do touch-up painting on your door (see photos) o This is not the fault of the Amcrest lock, it's just a byproduct of changing any lock. This is a nice well-built lock. Installation is straight forward and easy. Your journey will be different if you don’t have a deadbolt and need to make net new holes. The other challenge you should make note of before purchasing this is the difficulty of how your deadbolt moves back and forth. If your deadbolt slides with very little effort, you should be good to go. Again, my only reservation on this is a lack of actual “smart” functionality. Amcrest makes no claims to any external device integration. I feel for most people “smart” now days implies some type of other device integration. This does not have this, so it’s a bit of a stretch calling it “smart”. It’s just an electronic or digital door lock with a keypad. It functions as advertised. Just be aware it does not have any Amcrest smart app or other types of those integrations.
