This is an edited review is for the 17" shovel.As far as the steel goes, it seems to be durable and strong. I've had my shovel since April of 2018 and have used it several times now camping and it does good job. The handle on mine kept unscrewing so I had to stop and make sure I tightened it back again before I lost my shovel head in the fire or somewhere else but I fixed that by using some Teflon tape on the threads (see attached pic) and it does just fine now!Giving it 4 stars because the compass sticks. I took it out of the metal handle and keeping it level, made sure there wasn't any metal around and the needle just sticks. I have to tap it a few times before it points anywhere near north.EDIT: Raised to 5 stars! The seller contacted me just a few short hours after I wrote the review above. I was very impressed with the way they handled my issues with the shovel! Customer service is very important to me and they definitely proved to me they care. I do a LOT of camping and their store will be one of the first places I'll look in the future to see if I need any of their products. The compass issue was also resolved. UPDATE: It is holding up after 2 years. Because my full length shovel was broken...darn woodpecker, I used this to dig out a bush. The serrated edge really helped cut through the roots because it had tangled itself with another tree. It did not stand a chance vs this tactical shovel.UPDATE: Light enough for elementary school children and women with XS hands.Great camping shovel. It helped me put out campfires fairly easily, and it beats carrying a 6' shovel.Could screw on the last bit a tad better, but the item works. The only concern is the belt loop for the pouch. The extra seam is too short and cut diagonally instead of horizontally, but I can fix it by tailoring the pouch. But if I had to choose between an identical item near the same price with a better pouch, I would go with the item with the better pouch. Hint hint seller.

Product shipped fast and seems durable. I got what I expected and contrary to other reviewers I had no problem unscrewing the end caps for the fish scaler or fire starter. I noticed that with a little ingenuity, I could fit more survival items into the segments of the handle. The head of the shovel is not as large as other collasple shovels but it is much more portable. I was so impressed with this kit that I bought one for my son's girlfriend who is a avid camper.

Ditch that bulky Coghlan's shovel and get this one. I spend a lot of time backpacking and as any experienced backpacker knows pack weight and item size is critical. In its case, the dimensions are 5"x7"x1"; weight is around 5 lbs. It is so much more than a shovel. It has and does everything as advertised. Additionally, this isn't cheap light weight aluminum that will bend easily. Fully assembled, the feel of this shovel reassures the user it will withstand the rigors of the outdoors. It comes in its own molle case that is stitched well with thick material. A fine addition to my backpacking gear bag.

This is the best entrenching tool for the price, period!. It is extremely tough, very well made, and is designed to serve many purposes. This one is not made of inferior unknown iron alloys like you frequently find in most of the other brands, but is instead made of high carbon steel. I have purchased three in total, one to attach to my bug out bag, one to use around the house, and one stays in my Jeep to use in case of an emergency. I have tested these out quite extensively, so I speak from experience when I attest to their durability. Buy one, you will NOT be disappointed!!

PROS:This entrenching tool is very solidly built. It can take some abuse.The length is far better than many of the much smaller entrenching tools. With most of those other entrenching tools you really have to be down one knee to use it, with this one you'll have to bend over a little, but you don't have to be on your knees. Get the extension bars to increase the length and you won't have to bend over much. (It will add some weight though.)The components fit together excellently and will hold up while using the tool.The shovel head and the pick can be secured in position by a twist lock. Just turn the twist lock until it seats tightly against the shoulders of the shovel head and pick.All of the components fit into the carrying pouch easily, and there's room for an extra extension bar, or two.The handle is comfortable to hold.The knife can be screwed into one of the bars and then they can be stacked to make a "pig-sticker" for spear fishing.The carrying pouch is well built and designed -- with strong fabric, and MOLLE system attachments.CONS:It's a bit on the heavy side for a camping tool. That's not to say that it's very heavy, but it would be great if they could have made it somewhat lighter weight.

Good quality build. Definitely worth the value. I bought the best version. I am happy with my purchase, thanks for an awesome shovel that could save my life!

I really love my shovel. It is not too heavy but feels very solid. I had no problem removing any of the attachments and they all fit fine. I did find that the heck screw holes in the shovel head did not fit any of the heck screws in the attachment hexes though. Also, I only wish the ice pick would fit inside the handle so that everything could be self-contained. Still love it!

For a folding shovel it definitely comes with its multiple uses and meets your needs just fine if you're used to a lot of outdoor work. It's also super sturdy, easy to move around and very easy to handle. Not disappointed at all.

I bought this for a gift, at first i couldnt find knife inside and got salty about it, but apparently it was hiding inside of handle. Anyways very satisfied with quality of the product and glad i got this for my mate.
