Cool, cheesy flick that brings back great childhood memories!
I remember watching the El Santo movies as a kid, so it brings back great memories. My dad used to love these movies, we all laughed at how cheesy they were, but El Santo (who was always the good guy) triumphed over evil at the end, so all was as it should be. He also drove some really snazzy cars. I didn't realize how old El Santo was during most of these movies, probably in his fifties or even pushing 60, and yet he could still wrestle with the best of them. These are no subtitles, so all you non-Spanish speaking people will have to either have a translator or just make up your own dialogue.I showed some of my non-Hispanic friends a few scenes of the movie and they thought it was silly but fun. Really would have been better with subtitles so that I didn't have to translate. My midwestern buddy said "so, nobody thought it was weird that he (El Santo) walked around with a mask on all the time?" Me-"No dude, he was EL SANTO!" :) Either way, they are great, B-movie fun.

Santo en el Museo de Cera / Santo y Blue Demon en El Mundo de los Muertos
Good pair of Mexican-made, Spanish-language (no dubbing or sub-titles) El Santo flicks. The first one in black-and-white, Santo in the Wax Museum, is about Santo squaring off against a mad wax museum owner. The wax figures are pretty good and it has some creepy moments. This is the better of the two. The second one in color, Santo and Blue Demon in the World of the Dead, is about Santo having to go into the hoary netherworld to save his sweetie from a witch's curse. Blue Demon only has a small part in this. The quality on the Lions Gate DVD is excellent. Recommended for Santo fans.

Great Santo Double Bill
Lucha libre movies are usually released on DVDs as double features and all too often, a strong film is saddled with a weak one. This DVD, on the other hand, contains two strong Santo vehicles that are from opposite ends of the 1960s. "Santo en el museo de cera" is a black-and-white riff on "House of Wax" that features some moody cinematography and some pretty effective creepy moments in the first half. This is one of the better-known Santo films partly due to its being released in a dubbed version for American TV, and partly because it's one of the tighter-constructed movies. It's almost like a live-action comic book, which is precisely the point. This is a superior B-movie, close in spirit to the Santo comic books. It's easy to understand why some Europeans thought that Santo was a superhero created for the movies, especially after you watch him in this film. "Santo y Blue Demon en el mundo de los muertos" is a supernaturally-themed color film involving reincarnation and colonial-era witchcraft. At times it reminded me of the 'Dark Shadows' soap opera that was popular around that time and I wonder if that was the idea. Blue Demon has a very small role in this movie, despite what the DVD box will lead you to believe. There's a lot of imagination in this movie, and some really exciting fights closer in spirit to a brawl rather than typical lucha moves. I especially liked the sequences in the World of the Dead toward the end of the movie. Unfortunately, "El mundo de los muertos" has lower production values than "El museo de cena" which robs some of the more outre ideas of some much-needed punch. No subtitles (sadly) - not even in Spanish! Still, for any lucha libre fan - especially one who remembers when VHS copies of these films were very hard to come by - this is a good deal and one of the better pairings to come out of Lionsgate. The very best lucha libre movies are like Silver Age comicbooks brought to life, and "El museo de cena" is one of the all-time best lucha movies.

One of their best, for various reasons !!!
The fun with El Santo and Blue Demon is that nothing can be too far-fetched This double header delivers two totally different "pelliculas"."Museo de cera" (Wax museum) steers away from the expected path. When reading the title, you tell yourself : " Humm, a wax museum, what a wonderful place to re-animate monsters and throw them at Santo"..... I do not want to spoil the fun, but it is not what to expect from this one. More of a police flick than a Sci-fi one, it starts a bit slowly but then unfolds quite nicely. It suffers from the small budget. Speclal effects are inexistent. Actually I think I saw that the "main control board" prop inanother movie. A nice filler with a change of pace for the genre.... But still a lot o simple fun."Los muertos" is probably one the franchise's best. Very close to a late 50s horror movie, this one uses a lot of simplistic effects to get all sorts of undead people to appear out of nowhere. El Santo trip to a hellish place is worth the price of the DVD. This is the one of the ultimate way of using the Mexican wrestlers concept. Fight scenes are well dosed are adding something to the plot rather than clogging it.The is item is highly recommended. Some very very mild skin scenes are added to get little boys blood boiling. Only one con.... the matches in wrestling rings are adding nothing to the scenarios, but they provide cheap action scenes to the film-makers.VIVA EL SANTO........
